Flux: Q3 2023 Report
As we embark on the year's final quarter, keeping a steady track of the ecosystem’s growth over the past few months is essential. This article will review Flux’s third quarter of 2023 and what users should expect in the months ahead.
The Flux roadmap for Q3 focused on expanding the ecosystem through strategic cross-industry collaborations and introducing new capabilities to our underlying technology.
The goal was to make Flux the ultimate cloud infrastructure solution, capable of running servers, blockbooks, large complex applications, accessing massive computing resources, and anything in between.
To achieve this goal, Q3 2023 saw massive upgrades to the Flux Operating System (FluxOS) following the new “Scheduled Releases” approach.
This new approach facilitates seamless tracking of new updates, patches, and bug fixes for node operators, ensuring Flux maintains its agility reputation and prompt issue resolution.
(Yes, we “move fast and break things,” but we fix them faster).
Enterprise Features and More
During Q3, Flux upgraded its system to support various enterprise-level features on FluxCloud. The upgrade, dubbed “FluxOS version 4,” was designed to meet more specific and highly requested features from potential clients.
It is now possible to deploy Private Docker containers on the Flux Cloud, and we also integrated an enterprise scoring system for benchmarking nodes in the network.
The result?
Clients can now determine the nodes better suited to run their projects while operators are incentivized to run high-performing nodes.
The introduction of “Secrets” brought an additional layer of security to applications hosted on Flux Cloud, and we also integrated an option for using other repositories instead of the traditional Docker Hub.
Decentralized log-ins, please?
Done.
In July, we added support for Metamask and WalletConnect on FluxOS, which makes it possible for users to log in to their nodes using just their Ethereum identity.
Analytics and E-commerce
Web3 champions privacy. However, this also means that access to data and analytics in the sector can be challenging.
Our collaboration with Streamr aims to transform this narrative. Streamr-Hub incorporates data streams from the Flux Cloud API into its application, allowing node operators, data analysts, and developers to access real-time data from the Flux network.
Remarkably, metrics on the distribution of nodes, token supply, and more can provide helpful insight into the general performance of the ecosystem and its growth potential. This data-oriented approach also reasserts the importance of transparency among Web3 infrastructure and solution providers.
Flux partnered with the leading pioneer of Web3 E-commerce, Uquid, to open up exciting opportunities for online purchases across the Ethereum and Binance Smart Chain network.
$Flux is now fully integrated as a payment option on the marketplace, enabling users to make payments directly in Crypto, a massive step for Crypto payments in E-commerce.
Web3 E-commerce? Bring it on!
New Milestones
At Mining Disrupt, the world’s largest bitcoin mining expo held in Miami, Flux unveiled FluxCore, the client app for Flux’s Proof-of-Useful-Work. PoUW aims to revolutionize the mining process, making it more efficient, economically rewarding, and environmentally sustainable.
Flux’s approach to PoUW will maximize available hardware and channel the compute resources to projects/clients/facilities that need them. Using PoUW, it will be possible to render videos, train machine learning models, run high-end games, and a lot more.
We reached a significant milestone in August with over 2,000 unique deployments on the Flux Cloud infrastructure. We also hosted a folding@home deployment competition with 4,300 FluxNodes running the folding@home application concurrently, and 10,000 $Flux won as prizes.
Next, we ticked off another box on the roadmap for Q3 2023 with the upgrade of Flux Domain Manager (FDM). Flux has also migrated to its own PowerDNS setup. This is designed to handle the growing need for scaling in the ecosystem and ensure domain stability on the Flux network for the foreseeable future.
CypherPunk 2023
The highlight of September for Flux was CypherPunk 2023, a global conference featuring prominent figures from the Tech, Blockchain, and Web3 industries.
During the conference, Alex Perritaz (Chief PoUW Architect, Flux) and Davy Wittock (Chief Business Officer, Flux) demonstrated a walk-through for FluxCore, which was packed with different functionalities.
These functionalities include an option to alternate between mining crypto (not limited to $Flux) and running PoUW projects, plus a brand new PoUW marketplace/business hub allowing for interaction between clients and node providers.
Operators can choose to default projects or apply for custom projects, while clients get to specify requirements for their computing needs and rental duration.
Our goal is to provide a product with an easy-to-use interface both from the marketplace and the provider side, thus facilitating a seamless transition from Web 2.0 to a Web 3.0 experience.
Usability plays a significant role in the adoption of Web3 technologies. Therefore, we are removing the technical barrier and instead presenting users with an intuitive end-product.
FluxCore also comes with a fiat payment mechanism that allows clients to pay directly in fiat with an option to pay in native $Flux.
